Staffing Analysis

Staffing Analysis

16th St Baptist Church is a historic place of worship located in the heart of Birmingham, AL. This church became a cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement and has remained an extremely uplifting influence on the Birmingham community throughout the years.

The Project

With the 16th Street Baptist Church having just announced their plans to expand their facilities with a new visitor and education center, there was a lot of work to do. Aside from the marketing and communications work my group was brought in to do, I was tasked with leading what we called a “Staffing Analysis”.

The 16th Street team had a major decision to make that could impact the financial success of their new venture. They needed context, ideas, and advice on whether they should rent out their space for vendors to operate during high-traffic hours, or hire full-time in house staff for education, meals, and aiding the customer experience.

Both options seemed viable on the surface, some posed stronger financial risks while others risked losing control of the customer and education experience – a critical aspect of the 16th Street mission. Our Staffing Analysis was aimed to aid in this decision, truly painting the picture of what their team’s best routes could look like in terms of staffing. How an in-house staff might operate differently to an outsourced group. How both might impact the organization financially. Even analyzing case studies of churches in the area and other organizations across the globe who came across similar dilemmas. This document concluded with a final recommendation from my team, proposing a strong argument for a staffing option we see as best fit for this venture.
